About
This is me then.
BACKGROUND...
Since a small kid I always loved to draw
and make stuff, many weekends were
spent sprawled out on my Gran's living
room floor relentlessly supplied with
the weeks saved packaging, toilet rolls,
cardboard boxes, felt tip pens, and the
freedom to just play. It was not until the
final year of high school that I realised
I wanted to be an artist, unsure in what
sense? But I knew that I wanted to be
creative all day, every day.
I enrolled in my local technical college to
complete both an Art and Design GNVQ
and a National Diploma in Graphic Design.
In 2001, I moved to East London for a two
year Higher National Diploma studying
Graphic Communication. I went on to
receive a Bachelor's Degree for the same
discipline after starting in the second year
of a live degree course. I also won two
work placements at prestigious branding
companies in Holborn and Covent Garden.
After finishing university, and for the
following twelve months I continued
to build my creative portfolio by sourcing
placements with both local and west end
London design firms, many of which
lead onto freelance opportunities.
I was offered my first design position in Greenwich where I developed a solid professional foundation
in Graphic Design and print techniques.
This is me now.
FOREGROUND...
Five years on I am now Design Director of Carl Hansell Design, an independent creative
design consultancy based in London. I have been progressively running Carl Hansell
Design for the past two years now, creating solid client relationships and new skills along
my path. I spend my days designing stuff for local business and international companies.
I very much enjoy the freedom in working this way and pride myself on the fact that each
project delivered obtains the same due care and attention as the last.
As well as managing a variety of my own direct clients I'm often contracted by design
firms and in-house departments throughout London. This aspect of my business relies
on me being extremely consistent, flexible, and up to date with current design trends.

too many nikes,
my new thing is
rock climbing,
I use a 20" 4Gb iMac and a hi-res 15" 4Gb
MBP,
I love to design.
